Christopher has lived in Dorset or close to it's boundary throughout his life and considers himself extremely lucky to be able to enjoy the wonderful surroundings offered by the New Forest, the beaches of Bournemouth and Poole and the exciting Jurassic Coast. Apart from a period commuting to London, his work has been always been based in the Bournemouth area.
He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor at the age of 21, when he opened his first surveying and property agency business. His expertise in this area of work spans almost 50 years.
The desire to offer his help in the local community saw him appointed as a Justice of the Peace in 1982, an appointment he held until 1999, at which time it became impossible to continue the duties whilst working in Central London. During the recessionary period of the late 1980's early 1990's homeless young people in the area were squatting in some of the Bournemouth hotels that had closed and properties that were due for redevelopment and were lying empty. A number of these youngsters appeared in court and their plight was highlighted to the bench of magistrates. Both BBC and ITV ran TV programmes based on Bournemouth drawing attention to the rising numbers of young people for whom to go home was not an option for them. It was as a result of this that Christopher founded the charity 'HyPed' (Project for Homeless Young People in Eastern Dorset) and was it's chairman for 6 years. During that time the charity raised in excess of £1.5million pounds, opened a number of supportive houses and helped over 400 young people. The ethos of the charity was absorbed into and taken over by Bournemouth Churches Housing Association.
One of the joys of his retirement has been the opportunity to travel and like his wife, Rosemary, he enjoys photography and sharing his experiences with others. This has lead to his development of a series of illustrated talks which use the modern medium of 'PowerPoint' to add action, animations, and music to his presentations. He currently gives some 30 - 40 talks a year to local groups. Rosemary has also been giving talks about gardens around the world and horticulture for over 20 years, a hobby she took up to help raise funds for 'HyPed'. Her list of talks can be found at www.talksongardens.co.uk .
Christopher is self-taught about computers and computer programmes. He believes that this technology can be mastered by anyone who is interested and that the best way to learn is on a one-to-one basis in the relaxed atmosphere of the home where the essential on-going practice can make perfect.
He looks forward to being able to help you.
